This Seems Hard But It's Very Easy. Just Follow The Directions

After a great deal of trial and error and utter failure and about 75 hours of cussing my computer and putting my fists through my wall, I finally got my 2gb flashdrive to work with Windows 98 4.10 nonupgrade version otherwise known as Windows 98FE. The solution works with about 90% of all modern flashdrives and with most digital cameras.

1. Either find files csmapper.sys and carddrv.exe on your Windows 98 Setup disk and copy them to c:\windows\system or send me an email at darrylhall.uploads@gmail.com and I will send them to you along with the directions on this page

2. go to www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/win98fe-usb-mass-storage-drivers.php
download nusb320-Eng-98FE.exe

3. Load Notepad that comes with Windows 98. Open c:\config.sys Add the following 2 lines to config.sys and then save the file.
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\csmapper.sys
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\carddrv.exe /slot=2

4. Install file nusb320-Eng-98FE The installation will suggest you install at uw98fe. That won't work. Change the installation directory to c:\uw98fe

5. Shutdown and Restart

6. Put your flashdrive into the USB port. Windows will detect your new hardware and look for the drivers to make it work. It will find the closest file Windows has for that device. Do not install that driver. Instead have it look for drivers in c:\uw98fe. It will install USB updates, appropriate drivers for your flashdrive and then your flashdrive will work.

7. Unfortunately for some reason, Windows Explorer does not recognize the flashdrive. You'll have to use the DOS PROMPT to transfer files to/from flashdrive/harddrive. However, if you connect a digital camera to the USB Port, Windows Explorer will recognize and run it. Go figure.

8. Before removing flashdrive from USB Port, make sure you click on the USB icon at the bottom right corner of your screen. You must shutdown the flashdrive from there. Otherwise you risk losing what is on your flashdrive. You can't just safely pull it out.
